Berdasar hasil survei yang menyertai penelitian itu, balita menguasai rata-rata 150 kata. Namun, balita yang hanya mengetahui 75-225 kata sudah dapat dikatakan normal.

"Jika balita tidak menggunakan sebagaian besar kata-kata tersebut pada usia dua tahun, maka mereka kemungkinan akan terlambat berbicara," ujar Professor Leslie Rescorla, yang menciptakan versi pengujian ini.

Jangan langsung panik dengan penelitian tersebut. Sebab, sekitar tiga per empat balita yang terlambat bicara, terjadi karena terlambat belajar bicara.

Hanya, jika anak masih berjuang pada daftar kata-kata tersebut hingga usia 2,5 tahun, orangtua harus mempertimbangkan agar anak mereka mendapatkan terapi bicara. Jangan menunggu hingga usia tiga tahun.
